On Thursday night, Balatro nabbed three trophies at The Game Awards, the industry\u2019s most prestigious awards ceremony.<\/p>\n<p>Held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, The Game Awards 2024 featured the best and brightest from the video game, music, and entertainment worlds.<\/p>\n<p>While <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vegasslotsonline.com\/news\/2024\/02\/23\/balatro-review-poker-based-roguelike-deckbuilder-is-a-revelation\/\">Balatro may have been a surprise hit<\/a>, its success at The Game Awards was not, as it swept the three categories that most expected it to: Best Independent Game, Best Debut Indie Game, and Best Mobile Game.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Balatro Wins Best Debut Indie Game at The Game Awards 2024\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/UeCIEeoyvyE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Balatro was also up for Game of the Year, an astounding achievement, considering it was made by just a single person and was up against AAA titles developed by huge studios. Astro Bot, developed by Team Asobi, which is owned by PlayStation Studios, took the well-deserved trophy for Game of the Year.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>Anyone know where to buy a sturdy trophy shelf? Asking for a friend.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>localthunk is not one for the spotlight; Wouter van Halderen and Liz Cheng-Moore of Balatro\u2019s publisher Playstack accepted the awards on his behalf. He is active on social media, though, tweeting this morning: \u201cAnyone know where to buy a sturdy trophy shelf? Asking for a friend.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Balatro was released on February 20, 2024 and has sold over 3.5 million copies.
